What's the best saddle pad to keep my horse from sweating, being so hot and overheating? If you're asking this question you most likely are dealing with a horse that's getting extremely hot during your ride and is running the risk of overheating. But did you know that the amount of time it takes for your horse to cool down post-ride is also critical to your horse's health and well-being?
Despite what many think, there is a way to keep your horse cooler, drier and more comfortable during and after your ride. Ironically, the person who came up with this ground-breaking innovation to keep both you and your horse less sweaty and keep your saddle and saddle pads from being soaked in sweat had never been on a horse in his entire life.
Suresh Madhavan was a Veteran Police Officer who saw a need to help fellow Police Officers wearing body armor and Military Soldiers wearing IOTV and MSV stay cooler and drier. This lead him to develop a product called The Maxx-Dri Vest which is body armor cooling vest for breathable ventilation. The Maxx-Dri Vest is now used by over 170,000 police officers and soldiers world wide to help them beat the heat and not be so hot and sweaty under their body armor.
One day, by chance, a neighbor and lifelong equestrian noticed his innovation and asked his patented Maxx-Dri material could help her horse stay cooler and drier beneath its saddle. She said after riding, she'd remove her saddle and find that her horse was soaked in sweat, her saddle pad was soaked in sweat and the sweat had even soaked through to her expensive CWD saddle.
Within weeks Madhavan had a prototype of a breathable saddle pad developed and ready for testing. And after the very first ride, they knew it was going to be a hit. The saddle came off the horse and the horse's back was almost completely dry. Previously it was completely soaked with sweat. On top of that, the horse was much cooler (thermal imaging testing later revealed just how much cooler) and the horse's sweat had not soaked into her saddle.
One of the benefits of the 224 Equestrian Dri-Cool Airflow Saddle Pad that people love is that it does not hold any moisture. It's naturally anti-bacterial as well. This means no more hours spent doing laundry washing saddle pads. Although machine washable (but never goes in the dryer) all you need to do is hose it off and hang it over a rail for a few minutes and it's ready to go.
